| Who are we? Nottingham Ball Bois FC is a football club aimed primarily at gay and gay-friendly players and supporters in Nottingham and surrounding areas, however we are open to all people who want to play or support football in an inclusive and supportive environment. We have members of all ages, shapes and sizes, both straight and gay, and with different levels of footballing ability. What we do We offer the chance to play football at a competitive or more recreational level. We compete in the GFSN National League, and also in various friendly fixtures and five-a-side tournaments throughout the season, including our own annual tournament. Training sessions are on Sunday evenings, as long as there is no fixture on that day. There is also a social side to the club, with events held throughout the year, and we have a number of supporters who come along to both home and away matches. Recently, we have branched out into national issues, becoming involved with the FA and GFSN's campaign to tackle homophobia in football. Club history The club was formed in May 2006 when 10 people turned up to Gresham Playing Fields in West Bridgford for a jumpers-for-goalposts kickaround. Within two months the club was playing its first friendly game against Birmingham Blaze. In the subsequent months the club developed at a rapid pace, playing twelve further fixtures during its inaugural season and securing sponsorship for its distinctive black and gold kit. The first year was finished off in style with the Ballbois hosting their own Anniversary Tournament and then travelling to Dublin for the GFSN national five-a-side tournament, where Nottingham was the only club to qualify both teams to the quarter-final stages. The club has now been accepted into the national GFSN league, where it will soon complete its first full season. Nottingham gained its first silverware in 2008, winning the annual Yorkshire 5-a-side tournament, and is looking forward to its second Anniversary Tournament in May 2008. Club management The club is a membership organisation, and the members have the final say over club management at the Annual General Meeting. Day-to-day running of the club is carried out by an elected Management Committee, who deal with all off-field maters such as finance, arranging fixtures, communications, recruitment, sponsorship and liaison with other teams and organisations. On-field matters, including training and team selection, are dealt with by a separate coaching team. The rules and operating procedures of the club can be found in our constitution. Further information If you would like to know more about he club, then you can contact us by phone or email, or come along to one of our weekly sessions or to one of our fixtures. |
