Yorkshire 5-a-side Tournament
16 March 2008
Nottingham Arrows: Champions
Nottingham Bows: Group stage

Nottingham Ball Bois' impressive pedigree as a five a side club reached its summit as they won the 2008 Yorkshire 5-a-side Tournament in style, laying on a thoroughly accomplished performance on another cold Leeds afternoon.

Nottingham entered two teams, the Bows and Arrows. The Bows, captained by Adam R narrowly missed out on qualification from the group stages, finishing third in their group. The Arrows, captained by Chris L, qualified as group runners-up, and from there went on to win the tournament outright.

To win a tournament with thirty teams involved was an amazing achievement but richly deserved as the Arrows played with typical Ballbois teamwork and spirit.

In the group stages, three successive wins were checked with defeat to group winners BPP before a last gasp winner from AJ against Bournemouth 2 virtually sealed a quarter final berth.

Unfancied to go much further, Arrows stepped their game up to surprise the London Falcons first team, with AJ on the mark again. Mersey Mauraders had knocked both Bows and Arrows out in Dublin, but not this time as Arrows deservedly won the semi-final with Paul and Chris finding the net.

So onto the final where AJ's goal saw the midlanders beat Falcons Barmy Army, and bring home to Trentside our first ever trophy. The Arrows conceded only one goal throughout the afternoon and the icing on the cake came when manager Paul B was named Player of the Tournament.

Once everyone had dashed back down the motorway, the celebrations in the New Foresters went on long into the night!

Arrows: Martin M, AJ, John S, Gareth D, Dave O, Chris L(c), Paul B
Bows: Tony L, Brett L, Adam R (c), Jordan K, Damian S, James H, Basil L
