17 July 2008 Anyone could be forgiven for sensing a case of deja-vu in Ballbois' season opener, with an identical scoreline from last year, goal sequence and indeed goal times too, but there were subtle differences in a hard-fought match, pleasing on the eye. Both sides possessed quality starting elevens so a close encounter seemed inevitable. Royal Mail showed early impetus with their confident passing and clever movement, but for all that only one chance was forthcoming against an organised 3-5-2 formation. Once the cobwebs had been blown away, Ballbois' strong midfield five controlled the half and created three decent openings, but the small goals plus a competent keeper meant scoring might be at a premium. Half-time positional changes seemed to upset Nottingham's rhythm, they lost their drive and control which ultimately encouraged experienced opponents who were now in the ascendancy. This culminated in a well-worked opening goal on the hour and, unlike last year, the posties' fitness didn't wilt. But, Ballbois are born fighters and Damian's goalbound rasping drive was superbly tipped over. When the keeper then thwarted Reece in a one-on-one dual an equaliser appeared distinctly remote. Indeed, Royal Mail could have killed the game off twice and they were made to pay on eighty minutes. Receiving a pass eighty yards out, Craig left three defenders spellbound with his quick feet before cleverly committing the keeper, leaving himself a simple tap in. Everyone appreciated a magnificent goal. With twilight descending and the referee's whistle poised, the ball hit Brett's arm for a controversial penalty award. Undaunted, Tony guessed correctly and saved brilliantly to end a superb match. Team: Tony L, Jeff N, Jordan K, Brett L, Adam R, Craig S, Matt H, Paul B, James H, Damian S, Chris L
